Sticky Fingers Coronavirus Update and Advice, 10/03/2020
Please adhere to our requests for the safety of all our families.
Currently are following the Governments advice and we are updating our current policy, we request that you do not send your child to preschool if they are displaying any signs if the virus.
Currently the symptoms are high temperature, coughs, runny nose and shortness of breath.
Children should stay at home and avoid contact with those that have travelled to the UK from Iran, China, Italy, South Korea, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
Please contact NHS 111 if you have any queries. We currently do not have any cases of Coronavirus at Sticky Fingers and would like to keep it that way and can only do this with your cooperation. We have had children attending preschool that have been not fully well.
Whilst we realise children do get virus’ we would be grateful if you would follow these guidelines to protect those more vulnerable. We do not want to scaremonger and will operate as normal until we are informed of anything different.
We will be sending children home if they are unwell as we would normally do and our clean up and hand washing continues to be followed.
The children are discussing spreading germs and how to keep themselves safe, singing songs to keep the 20 second rule which is fun for them too.
Thanks for your understanding; any further questions please speak to Sue.

We re-opened in very different circumstances in June 2020 due to the Covid Restrictions.
However many of the positive elements of our changes and restrictions will be used in future terms to benefit our children and keep them, their families and staff safe.
The children adapted so well even those with additional needs, there was a calmness to the sessions which we felt benefited the children's learning, communication and interactions.

Returning Sessions June/July 2020
Welcome to Sticky Fingers Website for those of you taking a first look you will see lots of photos. I don't like to delete our memories and i'm not a 'Techie' or Office Manager, its all about 'Hands on' with our children for me! I like to build a stable relationship with the children attending our preschool rather than sit in an office.
All photos have permission to be shown and we continue to change and adapt our activities and plans to suit the children .We take wide range of photos in session and these are displayed within preschool and in our children own Learning Journals which parents are welcomed to take home and share with the family. We welcome comments to aid us in planning for your children and hope you will discuss any needs with us at anytime, also contribute to the children's learning journals and goals.
We send out a newsletter each term to inform parents of what we are up to or what we need for the children and what we are doing etc.
We much prefer to chat to you and we are always here when questions need answering. Please also check out the notice boards on the hall window this has information about us. We also display information on the Parish Board situated in the shopping square.
We try to keep our adult ratios high where financially possible so we are able to give time to our children. We feel it is important that our children feel valued and are happy with us, this is our prime target for all our children.
So if your child comes to us please don't expect a painting/drawing/model every session as they may just be getting to know our routines, making friends and exploring their new surroundings. This is not to say we don't do these things but we believe strongly in promoting Personal and Social skills (PSED) which is one of the Prime areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We also spend a great deal of time outside exploring our lovely surroundings using a Forest School Approach. Our outside play area is often full of reclaimed materials that give the children the opportunity to use their imagination and create their own ideas in play.
Children are encouraged to independent and take risks in all areas and we believe strongly in an ' I CAN' approach, teaching the children to have self belief and confidence in themselves.
KCC has developed a new and exciting App for families to download try this link, its free and has Nursery World Awards 2016

We still have fun in the rain!!! Out in all weathers always come prepared the British weather is so changeable and we all know what 'Vigo Weather' is like :)
Friday we decided to take the younger children out to see the bluebells for some being only two this was a first with us. Getting dressed took a little time and organisation but we managed it well!
We were a little longer as I must wear a watch in the woods, the time passes so quickly. Next time maybe like the bigger children we will have a Picnic so we don't have to rush back.
This area is perfect for our children there was wonderful involvement and I quote from one of my staff members who came to Shorne Country Park as a parent helper when we were just starting Forest Play activities over 4 years ago ' It was lovely to see all the little ones taking their first adventurous steps showing the core personalities starting to show - the builder, problem solver, explorer, animal lover, and future authors with their imaginative language of what they had seen'
Photos will be in Learning Journals and a display for inside the main hall is being prepared to allow children to further discuss their adventures.

Our Visit to Trosley exploring in the beautiful Bluebells and there was a puddle!!!!
With the children settling in we have been restarting our Wood Visits. These have been so successful with lots of the Early Years Curriculum being met.
We now have purchased 35 'All In One Muddy Puddle Suits' to protect the children from mud and wet. They are of a really good quality and are very thick (and warm) much better than our separate jackets and coats, which we will continue to use for garden play.
I have added a few photos to show our exploring during these visits. Often our wood trips or village walks are unplanned and we just get up and go !!!
But having many suits and wellys we are prepared for all weathers, and have found the best trips are when we just go!!!

Off to the Woods Today
The children soaked up some sunshine at Trosley today we found lots of MUD!!!
Welcome to Sticky Fingers Pre-school website. please enjoy the photos of the children at our pre-school, these are just samples of what we get up to.
Our main aim at Sticky Fingers is to have fun 'Playing Together'
'Growing Together' and 'Learning Together!'
Sticky Fingers Pre-school was inspected by Ofsted and was awarded ‘Outstanding’.We pride ourselves on offering a safe, fun learning environment for children aged 2-5 years. We believe in ‘Forest Learning’ aiming to get children outside and explore their environment. We are also an ‘Ecat’ Setting (Every Child a Talker) which aims to get children not only talking but sharing ideas in a social environment.
I have added a section reguarding our Ecat project under MORE Section also we have a section on Schemas.
I have also added some photos of the children within the session. Below is just an example, have a look at the photo gallery for more!
We are also embarking on the Kent Quality Mark (KQM) 2011-2012
This enables us to continue improving our commitment to the children in our setting, improving outcomes that benefit each individual. There are 41 settings/schools involved in Kent and we were invited to join the scheme last July. There is a lot of work involved and this includes all staff and parents contributing as there are strict procedures and audits to complete. However like all new challenges we love getting involved if it allows us to improve outcomes for our children and families.
We are currently taking bookings for our waiting list.
If you are interested in your child attending Sticky Fingers Pre-school, pop in for a Parent Pack, then place your child’s name on our waiting list.
Places are limited so its best to get your child’s name down to avoid disappointment.

Below is a small slide show of our children engaged in their play.

Class of 2010-2011 in the woods on their last day.
Today was a very happy day with elements of sadness when having to say goodbye to not only the children but their families.
I JUST CAN NOT DELETE THESE MEMORIES I KNOW THEY ARE OLD !

After talking to a Mummy at this weeks 'Stay and Play Session' this picture was discussed,
for you Mummy!
Its one of my favourites.

The children have been very interested in building and construction and also Dinosaurs, so we planned a dinosaur hunt, while we were out we used our 'real' saws to cut down trees.
Many people did not know BUT we have dinosaurs buried all over Vigo Village and the children from Sticky Fingers have found their teeth and bones!

lick here to edit.

While out on our walks in the village the children found a log!!! We often bring things back to pre-school but this one required three strong staff members to get it back! This log/tree is now used for a variety of things Sawing, Bouncing, Balancing and whatever else they choose!!!!!
We did not break it off it was found on the floor.

In the garden there are so many treasures, today a special worm was found he was called 'Wiggle' The children have been very interested in bugs lately so I have purchased a wormary (That I will not be responsible for YUK) ant hill and some caterpillars for the butterfly enclosure.
I am hoping the children will enjoy these bugs over the summer term.
This is one of my favourite photos even though worms are not! (the quality is not so good at there is only one copy and thats in this child's Learning Journal so its just scaned hope you can view it well enough)

Take turns, no pushing please!
We try to meet the needs of our children and noticed they enjoyed the more physical side of play. We dug deep in our resources and found extra pieces for the slide. It takes a little longer to set up but its worth it!
A real success, new skills in taking turns and waiting were learnt as well as the physical side!

Morning Tracy!
Arriving at Sticky Fingers is always busy,Tracy greets at the gate, the children always have a smile, so do the parents and carers!
Its the smiles that keep us going!

Hands are best everytime!!
Painting is a favourite for the children at Sticky Fingers BUT rarely with brushes!!! We always end up with BROWNS!!!!

Pop Pop Pop don't forget its HOT HOT HOT!!!
Sometimes we go outside to make 'Popcorn' we normally sing a 'Pop corn' song as it gets the pops popping!!! We generally make this up each time! Any left overs are given to the squirrels and birds.
The children are very aware that the cooker gets hot, the logs around the edge is where we built the fire!
